Celebrating Constitution Day at Ben Milam Elementary
Today, Jen and I went to Ben Milam Elementary in Harlingen to celebrate Constitution Day. As we remember from government class, the Delegates to the Constitutional Convention signed the United States Constitution on September 17, 1787 after much debate and compromise. The Constitution, which replaced the Articles of Confederation, created the three branches of the federal government and set the boundaries between the federal and state governments. Since 1787, our nation has amended the Constitution 27 times, but it continues to impact and influence our Nation today.
Jen and I would like to thank Ben Milam’s Principal Brenda McKinney and Facilitator Leslie Ruiz for inviting us to participate. Hopefully, the students got the impression that while our Nation may not be perfect, we as American citizens are fortunate to have many rights that those from other countries do not have.
